Our Commitment to Transparency and Consumer Choice
In today’s rapidly evolving digital marketplace, we recognize the importance of transparency and allowing consumers to direct how and when they communicate with companies, and how companies share data about them with others. Here’s what you need to know as a consumer:

Catalina® provides mobile, online and in-store personalized digital media solutions, including in-store and digital coupons and shopper-based communications, on behalf of manufacturer, marketing and retail clients.
Information We Collect Directly. We may collect personal information through our Sites and mobile apps, including name, email address, phone number, job history, demographic information, and other information that you provide to us.
Information We Collect For Rewards Programs. We provide in-store applications and related support to our retail clients to help them administer their loyalty and rewards programs. As part of these services, we collect certain rewards program participant data coded with a loyalty number or other customer identifier provided by the retailer. This data is then associated with a unique, Catalina®-assigned identifier which is used to aggregate purchasing activity data for that identifier (“Rewards Program Data”). Catalina® does not use the Rewards Program Data or that data we receive from retailers to recreate and retain specific personal information, such as names, addresses, emails of loyalty program participants. Our retail clients may associate Rewards Program Data from their loyalty programs with other information, including personal information, but their use and disclosure of that data, as well as any related opt-out features that may be available to consumers through the retailer, are beyond Catalina’s control and is subject to the retailers’ own privacy policies and practices.
Data Collected from Third Parties and Affiliates. We may collect certain information from third parties and affiliates, which we use to enhance the data we have collected. For example, we may engage a third-party provider to append demographic data and other non-personally identifying information to the data we collect.
Information We Collect Automatically. We may also passively collect information from you when you visit our Sites, or use our mobile applications or services. We use a variety of tools, such as cookies, log files, Java™, pixel tags and local stored objects to collect information about your use of our Sites. For example, we may collect your domain name; your browser type and operating system; web pages you view; links you click; your IP address; the length of time you visit our Site and or use our services; and the referring URL, or the webpage that led you to one of our Sites. We also operate certain mobile applications on behalf of our retail clients that collect: geolocation information; mobile device ID (or alternative ID where required by your platform provider); language information; name and model; operating system, type, and version; your activities within the app; and the length of time that you are logged into our app. We may combine this information with the other information we have collected from you.
HOW WE USE INFORMATION
Generally, we use personal information we collect directly from you for the purposes described at the time of collection, to process your requests, to provide you with the services and information you request, and to communicate with you about your requests. We may also use your information as follows:
- To provide you with marketing and other information that we think may interest you (unless you have opted out).
- To tailor the advertising, content and information that we may send or display to you, on our Site, to offer location customization, personalized help and instructions and to otherwise personalize your experiences while using the Sites.
- To display targeted advertising on third-party sites, mobile applications and other media, on behalf of Catalina® and on behalf of our clients.
- To provide our services to retailers and other clients, including sending or displaying offers, in-store and online, to consumers on behalf of our clients.
- To improve our Sites and services.
We use de-identified or non-personal information (including passively collected information) for market research and analysis to better understand how users access and use our Sites, to respond to user desires and preferences, and for other business, research and analytical purposes, including marketing and advertising. When we do, so, we do not use name, contact information or similar personal identifiers to identify specific individual consumers.
HOW WE DISCLOSE INFORMATION
As noted above, we do not sell or rent your personal information collected via our Sites. However, we may disclose your information, where we have your consent, or as set forth below:
- Service Providers. We may disclose the information we collect from you to third-party vendors, service providers, contractors or agents who perform functions on our behalf.
- Business Transfers. If we are acquired by, or merged with, another company, if part or substantially all of our assets are transferred to another company, or as part of a bankruptcy proceeding, we may transfer the information we have collected from you to the other company.
- In Response to Legal Process. We may disclose the information we collect from you in order to comply with the law, a judicial proceeding, court order, subpoena, or other legal process.
- Aggregate and De-Identified Information. We may share aggregate and de-identified information with third parties for marketing, advertising, or research purposes.
We also disclose Rewards Program Data to the retailer on whose behalf such data was collected, as well as other third parties as directed by such retailers. As noted above, retailer use and disclosure is subject to their own privacy policies and practices.
We retain personal information and other information for as long as necessary for its legitimate business purposes, and as otherwise permitted by applicable law.
Cookies. Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser for record-keeping purposes. Some cookies enable a faster log-in process, and some allow us to track your activities at our Sites. Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can edit your browser options to block them in the future. The “Help” portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to disable cookies or change your cookies settings.
Clear GIFs, pixel tags and other technologies. Clear GIFs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, which are embedded invisibly on web pages. We may use clear GIFs (a.k.a. web beacons, web bugs or pixel tags), in connection with our Sites to track the activities of visitors to our Sites, help us manage content, and compile statistics about usage of our Sites. We may also use clear GIFs in HTML emails to our clients, to help us track email response rates, identify when our emails are viewed, and track whether our emails are forwarded.
Local Storage Objects. We may use Local Storage Objects (“LSOs”), including Flash LSOs, to store your preferences and to personalize your visit. LSOs are different from browser cookies because of the amount and type of data stored. Typically, you cannot control, delete, or disable the acceptance of LSOs through your web browser. For more information on Flash LSOs, or to learn how to manage your settings for Flash LSOs, go to the Adobe® Flash Player Help Page, choose “Global Storage Settings Panel” and follow the instructions.
Embedded Scripts. An embedded script is programming code that is designed to collect information about your interactions with our services, such as the links you click on. The code is temporarily downloaded onto your device from our web server or a third- party service provider, is active only while you are connected to the services, and is deactivated or deleted thereafter.
You can opt out of receiving behaviorally targeted ads through the Catalina BuyerVision® Network via the Digital Advertising Alliance’s universal opt out tool. You can also opt out of receiving behaviorally targeted ads from many other third-party advertisers who are also DAA members, using this tool. For more information regarding this practice by Catalina® and other DAA members, and your choices regarding having this information used by these companies, including how to opt-out of third-party ad networks operated by DAA members, please visit www.aboutads.info/choices.
Opting out of one or more DAA member networks (many of which will be the same) only means that those members no longer will deliver personalized content or ads to you. It does not mean you will no longer receive any personalized content. You may also continue to receive advertisements, for example, based on the particular website that you are viewing. Also, if your browser is configured to reject cookies when you visit this opt-out page, or you subsequently erase your cookies, use a different computer or change web browsers, your DAA opt-out will no longer be effective.
Do-Not-Track options. Currently, our Sites do not honor browser requests not to be tracked. You may, however, opt out of many third-party ad networks, including those operated by members of the DAA, as noted above.
We may operate, on behalf of our retail clients, an online coupon service, which uses a plug-in to make coupons available to our client’s customers. Through this plug-in, we may automatically collect information as described under the “Information We Collect Automatically” section above. We may share the information with the retailer clients on whose behalf we are operating coupon services, and may use this information to personalize the coupon offers we display.
We have implemented safeguards to help protect the privacy of data and personal information you transmit through use of our Sites. However, no information transmitted online or stored electronically is 100% secure. We encourage you to use caution when disclosing information online. Often, you are in the best situation to protect yourself online. You are responsible for protecting your username and password from third-party access, and for selecting passwords that are secure.

Catalina® has provided in this Policy information on how you can change your preferences, including opt-outs, with respect to marketing or advertising done by retailers in connection with their loyalty programs or otherwise, and also by Catalina®’s own BuyerVision® Network. Our Sites are intended for a general audience and are not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from any visitor under the age of 13. TRANSFER OF YOUR INFORMATION TO THE UNITED STATES
The Sites and mobile applications are operated from the United States. If you are located anywhere outside of the United States, please be aware that information we collect, including, personal information, may be transferred to, processed and stored in the United States. Where the data transfer route is no longer available, an appropriate alternative will be put in place.
Data may also be accessed by vendors from other locations in compliance with the US Safe Harbor requirements of the EU data protection laws. The data protection laws in the United States may differ from those of the country in which you are located, and your personal information may be subject to access requests from governments, courts, or law enforcement in the United States according to its laws. By using our services or providing us with any information, you consent to this transfer, processing and storage of your information in the United States.
EU & SWISS SAFE HARBOR
Catalina® is a participant in the U.S.-EU & U.S.-Swiss Safe Harbor programs administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce, and agreed to by the European Union and the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner of Switzerland. We have self-certified that we adhere to the Safe Harbor Privacy Principles with regard to our use of the personal information we collect from residents of the European Economic Area and Switzerland. YOUR CALIFORNIA PRIVACY RIGHTS
We do not share your personal information with third parties for the third party’s own direct marketing purposes without your consent.
