The Catalina Island Museum celebrates the Island’s rich cultural heritage with many fun and informative exhibits. Current exhibits include an award-winning exhibit featuring the romantic era of Catalina’s steamships, Native Americans, a relief map of the Island from the 1934 World’s Fair in Chicago, a floor-to-ceiling display case showcasing our amazing Catalina Island pottery and tile, the Birth of Sportfishing, Chicago Cubs spring training, Catalina’s role in WWII and much more!
The Museum also offers exciting events and programs throughout the year, such as our annual Silent Film Benefit, docent-led tours, school programs, lectures, Open House at the Inn on Mt. Ada, live Telethon (broadcast locally and online) and more.
Our gift store features a comprehensive selection of books, videos and music relating to Catalina along with nautical items and a fabulous selection of fun and educational children’s items. Many items are custom Catalina related gifts that are found exclusively in our store.
Our archives are located at the Museum Research Center at 220 Metropole Ave. and are available to the public by appointment. Please call 310-510-4650 and ask for our Curator.

The Catalina Island Museum is a private nonprofit organization founded in 1953. The mission of the Museum is to preserve and share Catalina Island’s 7,000 years of history.
Our collections document the lives of the Island’s Native Americans, Spanish discovery, ranching and mining and the development of Avalon into a world-renown resort destination.
