Transportation
to Catalina Island

Though once you arrive you’ll feel like you’re in another
world, Catalina Island is actually located just 22 miles off the
coast of Southern California. It is fast and convenient to get to,
and there are many options for hassle-free travel:
Travel
By Boat
Half the fun of visiting Catalina Island is enjoying the ride over.
There are four boat companies that service the island from four
conveniently located ports in Orange and Los Angeles counties. Travel
time to Catalina Island is only one to one and a half hours, depending
on the port of departure. All of the boats are high-speed and provide
smooth and comfortable rides, so you’re sure to have a great
time while on board!
Travel
By Helicopter
If you want to get to Catalina Island even faster, consider flying
by helicopter. Six passenger helicopters service the island with
daily departures from San Pedro and Long Beach. Travel time is only
15 minutes.
Travel By Private Plane
Perched 1602 feet above the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island’s
Airport-In-The-Sky is built between two mountain peeks in the island’s
interior. The asphalt-paved 3250-foot runway can handle aircraft
up to and including DC-3.
More
than just an aircraft facility, the Airport is also where you’ll
find the Buffalo Springs Station Restaurant, a gift shop, historical
displays, beautiful native plant gardens, scenic vistas, and great
hiking trails.
Also
located at the Airport-In-The-Sky is the Catalina Nature Center.
To help visitors enjoy and understand the exceptional natural history
and ecology of the island, the Catalina Island Conservancy has developed
this intriguing outdoor display.
Shuttle
service is available between the Airport and Avalon. The ten-mile
drive takes approximately 25 minutes.
