Magical Island Holidays

Celebrate the season overseas this year on Catalina Island! Throughout the month of December, Catalina Island will be transformed into a holiday wonderland, filled with festive lights, holiday carolers, fun special events, and lots of small-town hospitality. That’s Magical Island Holidays on Catalina Island!

Holiday Tree Lighting
Magical Island Holidays kicks off on Saturday evening, December 4, 2004, with a tree lighting ceremony on the waterfront in Avalon. Join Avalon locals and visitors alike for free entertainment and lots of holiday cheer. The tree will stay open for public viewing until after New Years Day.

Shop In Avalon Weekend
Shop In Avalon Weekend will be held on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 5 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Mingle with locals, enter to win prizes, and enjoy great entertainment and free refreshments while you get started on your holiday shopping.

Avalon retailers are planning some terrific discounts and all shoppers will be able to enter to win prizes. On Shop In Avalon Weekend, each store will have a nightly drawing to give away a store gift. In addition, there will be a grand prize drawing on December 31 for several exciting, valuable prizes.

Shoppers will also receive a “Treasure Card” that will allow you to enter to win two free tickets to the News Years Eve Celebration in the Casino Ballroom (a $300 value). Just visit each participating retailer during Shop In Avalon Weekend and have your card stamped.

Lots of Fun Events to Get You in the Spirit
Imagine the sight of numerous golf carts parading down Crescent Avenue, Avalon’s waterfront walkway, sparkling with colorful lights and decorations.

The Golf Cart Light Parade is just one of the many Magical Island Holidays special events. A Tour of Lights, Christmas Carol Sing-Along, Holiday play, and the Annual Open House at the Inn on Mt. Ada are some of the other great holiday events planned for December.

In addition, every weekend in December, costumed carolers “The Jingle Singers” will stroll through the streets of Avalon, spreading holiday cheer.

Ring in the New Year on Catalina Island
“Magical Island Holidays” will cap off with the 32nd Annual New Years Eve Celebration in the Casino Ballroom on Friday, December 31, 2004.

Make plans now to ring in 2005 with an elegant buffet dinner and dancing in the world-famous Casino Ballroom in Avalon. Reservations include a buffet dinner, dancing, one 5” x 7” souvenir photo per couple, one collectable bottle of wine per couple, and party favors.

Entertainment throughout the evening will be provided by The Yachtsmen, a “big band” featuring music from the 30’s, 40’s, 50’s & 60’s. A trio from the orchestra will play during the dinner hours, with the full orchestra performing from 9:00pm to 1:00am.

Many hotels are offering special rates and packages for New Years Eve. A late boat is also scheduled to return to the mainland at 1:30am on New Years Eve, for those who would like to attend the event but not have the added expense of a hotel room.

Reservations may be made either in person at the Chamber’s office, by mail, or by phone. For complete details about the 32nd Annual New Year’s Eve Celebration on Catalina Island, contact the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce at (310) 510-1520.
