Emerald Bay was where Samuel Prentiss, the first white man to live on Catalina, built his house. During the 1863 Catalina mining boom, lots were laid out here for a town to be called "Queen City". These days it is a popular anchorage for boaters, with 100 moorings. The beach is now leased by Scuba Outpost, a camp that features diving, kayaking and mountain biking.
